Hi guys,

Look I've heard that it's possible to enter Japan on a tourist visa, then look for a job and from that point on the company sponsors you to get a new "work visa" to which you then sign the contract and you're set.

Problem is this:

It sounds too good to be true, is it?

Also,

The problem with my flight is that I'm flying into Japan in late november and most teaching positions don't begin then, and many others require you to be currently residing in Japan to apply. (groan)

So if it's possible that the Tourist visa then switch to work visa is true, it really takes alot of stress off me.

Any and all replies to confirm or deny this would be sincerely appreciated, really need your help.

Cheers,
Ichiban

It's definitely possible. Nothing magical about it. Just come at a good time, have a good resume, interview well with a company that sponsors visas (not all do), and that's it. There's obviously more to it than that, but this is the basic formula. Happens all the time.

Yes, late November will be a problem. Who wants to hire people for less than a month, then give them 10-14 days off for New Year? It happens, but not very often IMO.

Yes, many employers prefer applicants to be in Japan. It shows a commitment.
