Seeing as how I'm finally making some money here in Japan, I've been thinking about sending some home, mostly to stop myself from blowing it all on video games and knick knacks. What services do people here use? Which ones have the best rates and service (in English of course to). I'm sending it to Canada, but I don't know how much that will effect things. Thanks for any help/advice.

The answer is in the FAQ sticky.

GoLloyds seems to be the most cost-efficient way.

A vote for GoLloyds here. I've been using it for years. They charge 2000 per transfer, you do it from the ATM so don't have to wait ages at the bank or post office and if I send it early enough in the day it arrives in my NZ bank account that afternoon.

My bank doesn't charge me any fees for accepting the money but this varies depending on the bank.

If you introduce someone to GoLloyds and they make a transfer you get a 2000 credit so your next transfer is free.

My bank (Chase Bank) told me that I could mail travelers checks to them and they would deposit it...I have never done it, but even if the bank wouldnt do it a family member could...that way is free...

Thanks for the feedback, just wanted to get a feel of what people are using now. GoLoyds seems to be the way to go I guess.
