I have received an offer from Guangdong Bowen Intl.school near Hong Kong for 15,000RMB/mth before 20% tax. They provide apt. and meals.
I was sent a contract after corresponding by email very briefly with Deborah Chan and then received messages and a brief phone call from her assistant asking me if I liked the contract. The assistant barely spoke English. Then she wants me to sign it and send it back to her.
Have never spoken to anyone else but the assistant/secretary. This is an international school. Is this normal for China.
I live in Bangkok and this is not the way here. I realize Chinese New Year is coming but can anybody comment on this school in Guangdong province near Hong Kong. I think it is in Zhongshen (sp).

I don't know the school but the recruitment process that you are going through is quite normal for China.
The tax is not a flat 20%. Like Thailand, it's a sliding scale. On my salary of 16,666 RMB, I pay 2,518 RMB tax.
Here in China, jobs paying more than 10,000 RMB per month for 20 hours (same hours as my job) are few and far between so consider yourself lucky (although I don't doubt that you have the qualifications and experience commensurate with the salary).
Your salary of 15,000 RMB is about USD2,000 based on the current exchange rate + free accommodation.
Are you going to get paid for a full year (which will include around 10 weeks holidays)?
I have not been to Zhongshan. It's about a 90 minute bus ride from Guangzhou, and also a 90 minute bus ride from Hong Kong.
The work permit (Foreign Expert Certificate) and visa process is a breeze compared to Thailand. Your Foreigners Residence Permit (the equivalent of Thailand's non-B visa) is automatically multiple entry; come and go as often as you like. |
