I just arrived in Queretaro earlier today and fell in love. So Im thinking of staying. I have a few questions that Im hoping someone can help me with.

1) How do I go about finding teaching jobs in Queretaro? Id be willing to teach in a language school or an elementary school (I have a US teaching credential) or perhaps at a University.

2) Another option would be taking Spanish lessons at a Spanish language school (I know almost 0 Spanish)

3) Anyone know of any internet cafes in Queretaro? I found one small one but there must be others around.

Thanks,

Ed

If you are a qualified teacher, elementary or secondary, then I would start scouting out the private schools in town. You will make more money, have benefits, better hours and likely have the school pay and arrange your FM3.

However, if you do decide to teach at a private school, ask them about their curriculum (if you plan it or if they have one that you have to work with), class size, level of English ability, subjects you will teach plus the extra responsibilities you will have ("yard duty", after school programs, parent/staff meetings, etc.). Also, ask them about their discipline program. This might be the biggest question of all. I have worked in private elementary schools before, and the lack of consequences to students who misbehave is....interesting. So I would strongly suggest you ask the question, and see if you like (or can at least live with) the response.

I dont know the city, so I cannot offer any recommendations on what schools to check out. Take a walk/bus ride and see what is around, talk with the locals, and you should be able to find places to talk with.

Getting a job now (are you looking for a job immediately?) might be difficult as school started back this week and so most schools should be staffed. However, after long breaks like this, there are often teachers who do not return (and sometimes dont tell the school until the last minute, leaving it hard for them to replace a missing teacher) so you might get lucky.

Best of luck!

Try searching for 'escuelas de ingles' here:

http://www.seccionamarilla.com.mx/

You should find about 50. Unis may be included but you might have to do a separate search. As you're already there you can go directly to the schools, resume in hand. As dixie says, it's not the best time to get hired (especially unis, elementaries etc.) but private language schools may still be looking.

I love Queretaro but due to its proximity to Mexico City, it's not a cheap place to live so make sure to earn at least $8000 pesos a month unless money isn't a problem.

I lived in Q' , and taught for 4 schools there-feel free to private message me.

For jobs, go to: http://www.ayohui.com/ and type ingles into the search bar.

There's public internet all around--where are you staying?

For Spanish lessons, Ole` is supposed to be okay, but I never studied there. There classied ad paper there is called Contacto, and might list teachers--you get that at the newstands on the street.
