Hello All- I've just accepted a position with a LanguageCenter in Muscat and had a few questions about the area as I will be moving with my new born baby and husband. I'ld like to know if there are child daycare facilities or nanny services and also any gyms around? I know some of the hotels have gyms but which are for public use? I would also appreciate any info on sea freight shipping from the UK (Liverpool), basically how much and how long does the container take to arrive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and also thanks to the previous posters/Dave's Cafe- as going through the old topics really answered so many of my questions.

Wow, thanks! There is a wealth of information on that site. Good to know that Oman has all of these facilities.

If you want a non-hotel gym, there's a nice-looking one near the Al Shatti movie cinema. I don't know its name or number because I've never used it (don't live in Muscat), but I've walked by it a bazillion times and it's biggish, clean, and always mostly empty when I walk by.

The Horizon gym is a goodie. Membership entitles entry to all of their gyms which are located in:

Qurum
Al Khuwair
Al Khoudh x2
Madina Qaboos

They all have separate hours for the ladies (usually morning thru to mid-afternoon) then mixed entry until 10pm. Cost wise, I paid RO90 for 12mths subscription. From memory the gym near Al Shatti is RO45 for 3mths.
