|
|
| Hi, everybody. I'm a Nova refugee who's now teaching in Korea and I'm trying to figure out how to get back to Japan when my contract is done next year. I'm probably going to have to fly to Japan for an interview on a Korean holiday. Ideally, I'd like to work for another major chain like AEON or ECC or GABA or something like that. I remember, before I went to Japan the first time, reading that AEON's interviews take about three days in the states. Are they shorter if you interview in Japan? Do they conduct interviews in Japan? It seems like I remember hearing that many eikaiwa don't recruit from inside Japan and AEON is one of them. Which company's are my best bets for starting a job in December? Has anyone made the transition from Korea to Japan before? Just looking for some general advice and ideas on how to swing this. Thanks in advance. |

AEON recruits from within Japan. Good question about how long its interviewing process is. Why not write and ask?
How long did you work for NOVA? I ask because you ought to know that December is a terrible time to get a job here. Even if it means interviewing a month earlier, it's pretty bad timing. |

| December? Don't try to get a Job in Japan then. Go home on holiday, or go somewhere sunny and warm like Thailand for a month. You've got a year of working in Korea to save up, and you can certainly save more after working in Korea for a year than you can in Japan (at a 250,000 yen/month job!). Have a nice time in Thailand for a few weeks or a month, then come back to Japan. Stay in a gaijin house in Osaka or Tokyo and use that as a base for job searching after Christmas if you fail to secure a job before that. |

I work for Aeon. In my region at least, no teachers recruited overseas start work in December. There are no lessons for almost two weeks over Christmas and new year so it probably wouldn't make financial sense. There is generally a monthly intake of people recruited overseas otherwise. It takes 5 - 7 months from interview to arrival in Japan.
Aeon do recruit within Japan, but it's fairly limited, I believe. I have seen hourly-paid and part-time jobs advertised on Gaijinpot. I don't think Aeon offer visa sponsorship or accommodation for these contracts, however.
Have a look here for contact info:

I'm in the exact same situation Omeo, and I'm surprised you want to go back. I had a great time in Japan but I f'in love Korea now. Not to sound like a troll, but other than regretting leaving my friends behind in Japan, everything else has improved 200%. I am missing the (#*$(# Rage show in Tokyo though |

....you *beep*. Haha, Avenged Sevenfold went to Tokyo right after I left also. #$#$ Korea, I hate this place....
To correct myself for a second, I got lucky getting the job I have here. I guess if you're working for a hagwon it wouldn't be much different than Nova. |

| I have no idea how any one can appreciate Korea unless its the superficial pleasures it provides. Remember the hordes of Koreans singing the South African national anthem when they won the rugby world cup? The only thing those two nations have in common is racism. Anyway, if Nova was the best job the OP could get the first time around a chain school is of course the way to go once again. ECC certainly do not recruit from inside Japan, like most schools for the 'young instructor' they like the pungent aroma of fresh foreign meat, ew stinky. |

I wasn't with Nova for very long at all. I arrived in Japan on August 15th and all the schools closed on October 26th.
If December is a bad time to start working, I think I can extend my contract by a few months instead of signing up for another year. I can't remember when's the best time of year to start. I'll have to look that up.

Korea has it's good points and it's bad points. One of the main reasons I want to go back to Japan is that I was there for such a short time and didn't get to see or do most of the stuff I wanted to when I was there. The pay is better in Korea and I like my apartment a lot better than the one I had in Japan, but I want a country that's a little more laid-back. Korea's too conservative for me. There are more English speakers here, but there's less English writing, y'know? In Japan, most of the signs and menus and stuff like that were in Japanese and English. In Korea, it's mostly Korean writing and not so much English. I also miss 100 yen shops. I could go on, but the bottom line is, Korea's nice, but I like Japan better. |

I take exception to that ignorant remark about South Africans. South Africans are no more racist than Canadians (which is where you hail from I presume, judging by your username and your overly snobby, holier-than-thou attitude) and probably less so given that people of all races have to work side by side here every day. You need to pick up a newspaper and get with the 21st century buddy - apartheid ended well over 10 years ago! |

I interviewed for my ECC job in Japan. Has their policy changed? |

| I also interviewed for a full time position with ECC in Shinjuku, Tokyo. But that was about 5 years ago. Maybe their policy has changed, which is very possible. |

ECC occasionally interviews within Japan. If you apply when they don't say they are accepting applications, they give you the "We don't interview withing Japan" line. |
