I'm able to write in katakana on my keyboard, but not hiragana. I was wondering if anyone knew of anywhere online where I can download something to type hiragana. Preferably I'd like something involving a floating keyboard (is this what it's called?- when the keyboard's on the screen and i can just type keys with my mouse), but I'd take anything really.
Thanks for any ideas!

if you already have japanese enabled as a language, you should be able to switch from katakana to hiragana. look at your language bar, there should be a JP button and an A button. click the A and a menu will pop up, click hiragana and you should be good to go. alt + shift will put you back in english.

I don't have an A button. Does it stand for something - maybe I have to do it some other way.
On my language bar, there is a 'JP' button (which is pressed to change it to English-Canada or French-Canada). To the right of that is a ?Help button. To the right of that is CAPS and KANA buttons. Without the kana button enabled, my writing is in romaji, even though it's in Japanese mode. Enabling the CAPS just makes romaji in caps, and does nothing if kana's already enabled. Beside that is just the restore button and an options button, which contains nothing to do with switching modes. Do you have any other suggestions? I'm not exactly a computer genius, but I figure I should've been able to figure this out... Thanks for your help and I'd love if you had any other ideas Smile

okay...try this while in japanese mode
click the down arrow next to KANA on the language bar, an options menu should pop up.
select "input mode", this should make the A button appear in the bar. when you click this button and select hiragana, あ should appear in place of the A

hope this helps.

Okay, I finally got it figured out. My keyboard was set to "Japanese" setting, but not Microsoft IME which it seems to have to be on. I can now see all the settings (along with the elusive A). Thank you so much for your help!!!
ありがとう ございました!!!
