First, I'm not considering a runner. But, this is something I've wondered about for a while, so...

As I know it, to change from one employer to another mid-contract requires a letter of release with official seal stating that the release is sanctioned.

Well, what happens if you just pull a runner, with no letter of release? I read a comment somewhere here that you can just dash down to Hong Kong and "get a new visa".

Is that correct? If so, how does it work? Go to HK, get a tourist visa, come back, and your new employer will then process you a shiny new work visa? No questions asked and smiles everywhere?

Like I said, I'm not planning a runner. However, this info might come in handy, so I thought I'd ask.

how far away is it from WONDERING to CONTEMPLATING Confused Laughing

sure, any info'll come in handy on this one Wink

it depends where in this lovely country you'd "contemplate" or shall i say "wonder" to run to ... HK may provide you with that "right to travel" back in where you've run from, however your choice of that "shelter" matters a lot in this 5,000 years old country with 5,000 systems so to speak...some provinces have begun a kinda law/regulation, which states that you need to provide them with a RECOMMANDATION LETTER (not really a release letter anymore) from your previous employer..and, that's where your trouble might come in as not so "handy" Wink

my suggestion is not to run to fujian, guangdong or guanxi, since those are some of the provinces with such regulations in effect..surely, there're places (desperate enough) but keep in mind why

cheers and beers to runs from hell, but no cheers or beers to just runs 'cause one's got a new pair of runnin' shoes

Taiwan too. Better to eat a snake than to have a snake eat you.

in the past, usually you could go straight to another province as one province doesn't give jack about what happens in another province. if you wanted to come back to the same province the same semester as your current contract, going to Hong Kong might not suffice as they keep your name on computers

with all due respect, not as dodgy as the first post Wink

realizing that there's little need to provide reasons on, i'd say there's some appropriate follow-up expected from one asking for directions, or you'll probably have a jungle out of your thread Idea
