|
|
Just wondering. I have worked as an EFL Instructor in 4 of the 6 GCC countries. I was wondering on AVERAGE which pays the most?
I know Bahrain is quite low and Oman is also ON AVERAGE, lower than the remaining four. Also not taking into consideration what the countries offer for leisure (I can see a lot of people defending Oman for having more 'outdoor activities'), I just want to know, which country do you think offers the best salaries. I have heard that HCT in the Emirates pays between 4 and 5 thousand USD and that is considered a good salary. True? On average, what does each country pay, and what is considered a good teaching salary in each country?
More specifically, what is the average salary in Qatar for teaching English, and what is considered a good salary in Qatar for teaching? And how many contact hours do most of you have each week?
Thank you for your reponses. |

salaries can't be simplistically listed
in kuwait, you must specify whether it is an institute/company, school or university |

You have asked the unanswerable... based on what credentials? experience?
Average tends to be meaningless when you have language schools - small or large... international schools - small or large... local school system. Universities - small/large - private/government? Oil companies? the military?

To survive in Qatar as a single person, you need at least a salary of 12,000 plus, for a married person at least 14,000 and if you have kids - need I say more? You need a lot. |

Yes agreed....single, no dependents in Qatar not less than 12K; Kuwait 900 KD; Saudi 12K (as long as you have easy access to Bahrain).Quals & exp should matter but unfortunately many pay a flat rate. |

Not attacking, but isn't it possible to average all of these together? Roughly? I am not asking for the average pay of say a university or just an oil company, etc, etc. I am simply asking for the average pay of all of them together!!! Just to get an idea of where I stand in comparison to all other English Instructors in Qatar, regardless of what type of teaching position they have! |

Not really. Also not a criticism, but I'd say that the "average" as you are asking is really a meaningless number. You should be comparing what people with your education and experience are getting in an equivalent job to see if you are doing OK.
Not to mention that it is a number that nobody really knows. As you can see in your poll, the few voters can not even agree on which country is the highest. For most (all?) employers, the current employees don't even know the average of their own fellow teachers. To get an average, you need to know how many English teachers there are... anyone know that number of the country that they work in?
Thus any number you get here would be just a guess... and probably not even an informed guess - based on rumor half the time. I'm not sure of what advantage such a number is to you or anyone.

With the constant rise in the cost of living, if you make less than eleven thousand a month you'll be in trouble. Never ever take a job that does not include accomodation or tickets. |
