Any other musicians here?
I'm wondering if it would be too much of a hassle for me to bring my instruments over with me on the plane (I'll already be loaded with luggage and other things) or if I should just buy/rent an instrument when I get to Tokyo. I play the saxophone and guitar.
Any thoughts? |

i have travelled with both of my les pauls. one of the cases is raggedy and really messed up, but singapore airlines treated it nicely.
JAL messed up my newer case a wee bit, like one rivet got ripped out somehow, but the guitar was intact and didn't even need to be set up again when i arrived.
my friend's band has toured asia, europe (5 times) and australia. they never reported any problems except maybe a tuning problem on their guitars that can be fixed easily. sometimes flying can throw the intonation out due to temperature/humidity changes, jostling, etc.
i think you'll be fine. |

Yuup, none of my band buddies ever had trouble transporting instruments across seas by plane. Like uberscheisse said, the worse I've ever seen were a few scrapes and scratches. Shouldn't be a problem :] |

If you can carry it, bring it. I always bring my guitar abroad, never had any problems.
Enjoy,
