Just a quick question.
I am a teacher from England and would like to use my summer hols to volunteer in Africa/ I am prepared to do any kind of work, but i am struggling to find volunteer work that doesn't require a large fee.
Any info would be great
thanks

If the 'large' in 'large fee' is the problem, I think these guys offer a reasonable deal; http://www.edukaid.com/. I havent checked it fully, and it's been awhile since I even did that, but I recall their fee was around 325 pounds? which is the cheapest I have found. Most volunteer teaching programs come with fees I'm afraid, unless you'd commit for a year or 2. |

on volunteer fees -
a lot of time people want to volunteer for a short period of time - which means they need to be trained and what they give back labor-wise may not add up to the investment in their training
yet food, shelter, water, energy, medicine, etc all have to be accounted for; ngo's work on strict budgets
yes, the fees are sometimes high, even seem like you are paying for your own salary?
if you really want to go to Africa, pick a country or area and save up and travel there - it will be worth it - I spent 6 wks touring s.a. and it was great - and I was surprised at the number of single women doing the same thing - maybe you are also?
anyway, the point is - maybe you just want to go but can't justify the expense - while you are there you'll be able to see if you really want to stay or not - and you can make contacts that can help you if you want to stay
if you are in any kind of univ program you might be able to do a study-abroad program also -
good luck! |
