I have previous work experience in South Korea and have been trying to go back there to teach again, but my previous director has been giving me an unfounded negative reference. So, I'm looking into teaching in other countries.
How do the benefits compare in Indonesia? Do schools pay the airfare and for the apartment and compensate high above the average cost of living? Do most schools require CELTA or TOEFL? I don't have either, but could I get a job in Indonesia without them?
I'd appreciate any knowledge and advice you can offer on this topic!

haha, when i read this title, the first thing I thought was, "damn, Ghost MUST have started this thread!!!....oh wow, no..." LoL!! Just messing with u Ghost!!!!
Legally, all you need for the proper work-visa (called a KITAS) is some sort of TEFL cert. They even take any online one too. But, it seems apparent to me that you can get all the proper visa without that stuff.
I would also ASSUME that you having experience will help greatly.
Just to give you an example>>> When I was in Bali, i decided to visit an EF school just to talk to them and check them out. When I first started talking to the lady she said firmly that I need to have a TEFL cert with 6 hours of obserance, blah blah blah.. But we hit it off real nice and after about 5 minutes of more blah blah blah, she switched into, "Well, I still suggest you submit your resume, you never know where we might be able to fit you in.... heres my email..." And, after talking to one of the local teachers at THAT location (from England) he informed me they were in need of some more ''virtual classroom'' teachers there and they would hire anyone with or without TeflCert, lol....
On the contrary, I also talked to some friends of friends there that managed some fancier English schools than EF and after telling them I had no TeflCert yet, they kind of looked at me like, "then why the f*** are we even having this conversation??"

Just a thought>>>>
Why switch countries?? Don't you STILL have to use the same references?!?!?!! Also, if you DONT use him as a reference, can't you STAY in the same country???
So to me, a bad reference shouldnt have any affect on WHAT COUNTRY you work in. But thats just me using my logic... |
