Just wanted to take the time to thank that nice Mr Erdogan for imposing the smoking ban. Hopefully in about a year or two after a few restaurant and bar owners have had their fingers rapped for letting smokers pollute the air in their premises we will be able to enjoy some fresh air. At the moment in most places its business as usual, but lets hope for not much longer. God I hate that filthy disgusting habit!

According to today's T. D. N. unless more is done to prevent young people from starting to smoke, helping those sadly afflicted with the addiction, and protecting non smokers from the toxic fumes related to the foul and disgusting habit, the 100 million people who died worldwide from tobacco related illnesses will increase 10 fold to 1 billion during the 21st century. Makes you think ?
As far as my workplace is concerned, I intend to make the life of any smoker I find on the premises as difficult as possible. unfortunately, the biggest offenders are the so called educated people with their jealously guarded right to smoke.
I hate the way when you go to another office to discuss important issues with other non smokers and some clown breezes in and lights up. Never for one moment showing any consideration, when its quite clear they have just walked into a room full of people who prefer to abstain. Regardless of their language or culture, smokers generally do this . Thats probably why I'm so grateful to the guy who implemented this law. Clearly this forum has too many smokers or its just apathetic!!
I'm sure there are people on this forum who will defend their right to smoke even when it causes discomfort to those who don't .

I thank Mr. Erdogan as well. In about 1 year hopefully all public places where it is to be enforced will have to obey the ban and our lungs will be better for it.

putting taxes on cigerettes is more effective and helps pay for health costs.

Any laws limiting smoking in public areas in Turkey have zero chance of being enforced. People will do as they please, just as they do when they are behind the wheel of a car in this country.
I am fortunate enough to work for a General Manager who finds smoking to be the vile and repugnant habit that it is. We now have a nonsmoking section in the business' lunchroom. It really doesn't help much- it's akin to having a peeing corner in a public swimming pool.

In what appears to be a positive spin off from the new smoking ban I have discovered eating and drinking establishment are now offering separate areas. About bloody time!
