Hi,
Was wondering if anyone had experience of travelling to the US (Austin specifically) by bus from Mexico City?
Is it easy, is it cheap, is it do-able?
Any advice e.g. costs, webistes to look at, bus stations to investigate would be much appreciated.
Thank you!

I was recently in Texas, and noticed a lot of Autobuses Americanos offices, particularly in El Paso and San Antonio. They have a logo on the Greyhound Mexico website http://www.greyhound.com.mx/, and from what I saw when I was there, have lots of routes going to El Paso. It is really far, so you might want to fly to say Chihuahua or Monterey and then bus to El Paso and on to Austin if you need to save some money, or maybe try going with a Mexican company further north and then changing over..

I did a quick search on the Greyhound site and it goes through Monterey and then up through Laredo and San Antonio, but I think its probably worth shopping around.

Happy travels!
Lozwich.

The really far distance in Texas is Austin to El Paso, almost 600 miles, almost 1,000 km. Austin is closer to Oklahoma City than to El Paso. So, from DF to Austin, El Paso would be a long detour.

There should be several luxury bus lines from DF to San Antonio (via Monterrey and Laredo), and from there a 70 mile Greyhound trip to Austin.

Ok, thanks for the help. It's a good 900 odd miles. Didn't quite realise that...
Will look at that website and consider my options!
Thanks again

The low-cost airline Vivaaerobus is set to begin offering flights from Monterrey to Austin in May. Promotional prices were $9.99 MXP each way + taxes. So, if you can bus it to Monterrey, hop on the plane here and save yourself the hardship of riding Greyhound.

By the way, their website is www.vivaaerobus.com

Good luck!
