				| Hey folks,
I have spent a few years in central america teaching. I am now going to S.Korea. I am trying to set up a 10 year plan to get into the upper ranks of teaching. Does anyone have any recommendations as to what I should get a masters in and then a Ph.D in? I know this may be a bit off the topic page but I noticed there were some teachers with advanced degrees on this page and I was hoping someone might help me out.

How much time should I spend abroad between getting a masters and a Ph.d?

Do the benefits of having a Ph.d outweight the costs and time needed to get this degree?

What is the average age of the the professors in top positions?

Once again, I know this is a bit off topic but any help would be greatly appreciated.

 Ben

I guess this depends on what aspect of TESOL you're interested in. If you really see yourself teaching university level (read through the comments on this board-bitter and all) then you'd want MEd/MA TESOL or Applied Linguigistics.

If you have any K-12 experience and think that you may head this direction, I would suggest getting the teaching qualification/masters.
