So I've been trying to get my CUID number unsuccessfully for about two weeks now, and I'd love to hear some stories from people about how they finally got them.
I got my certificado de domicilio, and headed to the proper AFIP office. They gave me form which I believe is for temporary taxation, but would not give me a CUID number. They referred me to the Migraciones office, and said I needed a certificado precipia...or something. But I think this last step is unnecessary and they're just trying to make things difficult.
The woman who hired me told me I absolutely need to go to the AFIP office with an Argentine in order to get the CUID number. She says if they don't hear that porteno accent I won't get anywhere.
But this is problematic, as I only know one family of portenos, and you know they work during the week. It'd be a huge hassle for them. I would much prefer to do it myself - is it really impossible?
I was told, go back to the AFIP office (with an Argentine) and lie and say I'd been to the Migraciones office, and that they said that I wasn't going to be in Argentina long enough to be applicable for the form I was told to get...and then they would just give me the CUID number.
It's all so shady! Is this really necessary? Does anyone have any advice?
I'd greatly appreciate it, as this is holding up me starting a job. Thanks. |

It's called CUIT, a taxation id for indepedendent workers.
Employers hiring foreing English teachers cannot force the person to go to AFIP and get the CUIT or CUIL.. Technically, you should have DNI or Residencia Precaria for that. In that case, the employer should make you a contract so you can bring some other documents (birth certificate, no criminal record certificate, ect..) to Migraciones and get it done.
The problem here in Argentina is that here language institutes won't sponsor foreing teachers because it's expensive to be in 'blanco' with AFIP and they don't want to spend that money.. They hire foreingers in 'negro' and you work under the table which is very common, even if it is shady..
Your employer can't force you to get the CUIT, if he or she won't sponsor you. It's just not fair. I strongly doubt your new boss will fire you for not having a CUIT number when it's not your fault. Don't worry if you can't get it, getting the CUIT is like playing the lottery, some get it, some don't for unknown reasons; I was one of the lucky ones.. The system here is very inconsistent.
There are a lot of other language institutes that will hire you without the CUIT, I just turned down a job offer because of a schedule conflict with another job and they are looking for teachers right now.
Drop me a PM and I can give you the info.
Suerte, Sabine. |
