Sunderland University in the UK offers an MA in TESOL via distance learning, and it looks like the fees are a little over $10,000
Is a distance learning degree worth the paper it's printed on? Will international schools recognize it? |

Look the only thing worth getting is teacher certification in one's home country so one can work for international schools.
In direct regard to your question you can do first a certificate in linguistics then a diploma followed by a masters from the University of Southern Queensland all up for about $10,000 Australian by distance ED and have a more practical masters. Why you might ask? Because the masters in linguistics can read masters in education. |

For international schools, the effect of having an MA in TESOL/Linguistics etc is to raise your pay by 500Y a month (if you are lucky). Anda is right in saying that having being a qualified SUBJECT teacher in the US/UK/Aus or anywhere is what they are looking for.
On the other hand, if you are looking at some time in the future to teach English in an English speaking country, or a European country, then the process of continuously building your qualifications will be very important indeed. They will look for diplomas and evidence of development. |
