|
Hi guys
I am gathering information about Cyprus and wonder if there is anyone on the forum who lives there?
I am currently applying for work in the universities there (I work in an Italian uni at the moment) but I can't get much on what the towns are like, what the way of life is like.I hope it isn't too british-influenced, is it?
And what kind of hours/contract wouldm you expect in a university there?
Thanks a lot!

It was a British Colony from 1878 until Independence in 1960. So, sorry to diasappoint you but there is considerable British influence. Since invasion and partition in 1974 Northern Cyprus has been cut off from the outside world since no one apart from Ankara recognize the government.
Things may change now that Greek Cyprus has an AKEL PM.
Why do you dislike "British influence " ? Is it the funny spelling ? The tea-drinking ? The fact that they made a better job of running the show than the Yanks are doing ? |

Hi scot..
Thanks for the message. It is precisely because of the history of Cyprus that I am trying to work out how "British" it is.I am trying to live somewhere where you feel like you are abroad, not in an ex-pat place where the latter complain about the locals at their cocktail parties.
Know anything about the universities? Salaries?
Have a good day!
Ciao
