We've all heard different things. I'm interested in what peoples' experience has been in this matter.

If you know a way to improve this poll, lemme know, I'll edit it.

Thanks!

Wiring from a Taiwanese bank hands down.

Forget HSBC, their wiring rates are double that of Taiwanese banks, even to wire to other HSBC accounts (in other countries).

You can also get an International Bank Draft...these are cheaper than wiring and you can carry it home with you to deposit in your account when you arrive. Shanghai Commercial Bank does them (I'm sure others do too, I just had trouble finding other banks that understood what I was talking about when asking for one!). I also used to get these bank drafts to send home to people as money gifts for things like weddings.

Wiring from a bank of course. Why would you do it any other way? Its cheap, safe and quick.

Thanks for the info. I hope more people reply. It's not just to help me, I thought this might help a lot of people. Obviously, the idea of the polls is to sorta "democratically" handle things upon which people usually disagree.

For some reason I can't actually vote, but if I could it would be number 2.

What are the bank charges for wire transfers at the receiving bank? I know sometimes the banks in the UK charge fees for processing which can be ridiculously high, or are transfers dealt with in the original banks fees?

I have been wiring money to my U.S. account from Bank of Taiwan. Bank of Taiwan charges me NT$350 for the transaction. Before it arrives in my account, my U.S. bank has taken out another US$15 (NT500). That's a hefty sum. Is there a cheaper way to do this?
