I am being told that accomodation arranged during my training course will cost $190 a week for a funished apartment with laundry service. Obviously I realise this is very expensive. But what is it likely to cost to organise on my own near the International House in Condesa? A couple of hundred bucks for not having an extra worry is worth every penny.

Condesa isn't a cheap area to live...you might be able to get something in nearby Roma for less. Zona Rosa, Juarez, Cuauhtemoc, Napoles, and Del Valle are other nearby areas to search.
One question...for what is being offered to you in Condesa..is that alone or with others?

It's with two others. I'm quite happy to pay it as it's close to the school, but it does seem steep. The homestay option is almost the same price (!) and I think living with a family I could potentially not see eye to eye with when I want quiet for studying could lead to stresses.
I would want to be within roughly half an hour of IH door to door, a bit of quiet, a desk, a bed, no cockroaches and no atomic pneumatic drills living next door.
I realise though a noisy neighbourhood is likely |

| So is that $190 usd per week, each person? That is ridiculously expensive if it doesn't also include 24/7 maid service, and a compliant masseuse. If you're willing to share, you can do as well as $150 a month in the same area. Noisy isn't a problem if you're off main boulevards. I live close to where you plan to be and it's dead quiet through my windows. |

yeah, i guessed so. the document is written in fairly bad english and very brief so i may be reading it wrong. but i guess they are trying to make more money out of us.
I should look for my own accomodation and stop being such a fassyman. any tips? Craigslist? or some website similar? |

the course starts July 7th by the way, I'd want to be in DF at least a week before it starts though to acclimatise. whats the best option? get a room for a couple of months to allow me to find work after without hassles. then get a new apartment to suit my employment. how easy is that?
i havent a clue about how these things work. im used to 12 month contracts.
you are an amazing help on this forum guy. thanks a lot |

First up, you should stay in a hotel or hostel for a few days while you get the lay of the land, and scout out a few locations for a longer term stay. It's then not a bad idea to rent a room for those two months - through the 4 weeks of the course and 4 more weeks as you're assembling your work situation, then look for the 6 month to one year apartment. Or, you luck out in the first few days and find something you'll want for the duration.
As we do for everyone coming into DF, Jake, the folks here are probably more than happy to invite you out to our get togethers and offer a hand. It's good to network on the ground in DF to find jobs, private classes, places to stay, the best taco stand, etc, etc. |
