Salaries vary considerably, as in other countries. I was paid 110 pesos an hour for a single evening course at a private university in Merida, Yucatan. I have a friend who teaches full time at another university there and I believe he told me he gets paid 76 pesos an hour for a 35 hour week. His benefits are numerous. |

The state universities in Oaxaca pay about 10000 pesos per month after taxes and other deductions, but for that you must be on-campus 40 hours per week. It works out to roughly 60 pesos per hour - but at least it's full-time and the cheques never bounce. |

Interesting. Is that the rate at all the Oaxaca universities across the board? |

With a relavent MA, it goes up about 2,000 pesos.
The pay is across the board, but if you've seen differences in ads, it's because some people list the gross pay and some the net pay. |

Anywhere between $100 and $150 an hour depending on the university. El Tec pays the best I think but other government unis pay well. Private ones can sometimes pay as low as $50 the hour, depending on its 'social standing' and reputation. |

How about with a DELTA Melee? Or an MEd, while I'm asking.. |

Any kind of a masters leads to the pay increase, and a doctorate is yet another step up.
I'm pretty sure having a DELTA would be completely ignored by the administration; the universities grant licenciados, so they're only interested in your having a university degree. |

I'm afraid what LS said was true--no extra for the DELTA, the same goes for Post Grad diplomas issued by universities. The Admin just doesn't think "outside of the box".
And MEd in language teaching or something related is a shoe in for higher pay Non-related Masters are hit or miss. I know some teachers with Masters in other fields who get MA pay, others who don't. It's just the whim of the academic council on the day the applicant is put through. Which is a shame...
Also some of the newer campuses don't feel they have the budget for English teachers with MAs and won't pay more no matter how dynamite the teacher's credentials are, which is also a shame because they are the ones who need dynamite teachers to get the program off the ground... |
