Been at a few job interviews and have met some people who have returned unexpectedly from Kuwait.

Some said that contracts fell through and others were talking about people over 45 being let go. I didn't want to ask too much as they were all quite upset.

To return to the subject - what's happening?

Let go from by whom? There are a number of employers in Kuwait...

That makes little sense as many of the people that they hire in the gulf are 45 or over. It is more likely that those let go had another significant problem that didn't involve age.

You have to be very careful with some of the outfits that operate here. Some are fly by night outfits, so best stick with the known places
like GUST (not highly recommended but always hiring) AUK etc.

From the postings - it looks like TQLS - as for the over 45 rule, I think it was an Ahmedi contract

Some people got sick from being overworked and stressed out. They don't want you off on sick leave and figure that under 40's have better endurance and stamina. They're probably right. With age comes wisdom but few appreciate it.

If that's the reason, it's sad.

In my experience, usually the older teachers are the ones with more stamina.

The over 40s probably take less sick days than younger staff on average. One reason is they are aware that it may be held against them.

Avoid KNES like the plague....

Jahra is also not to be recommended- for reaons known to those of us who live here and never venture out there.....

Things are all up in the air at an Al Shaya girls' school too at the moment- few native speaker teachers present at line up, many leaving and no apparent control system-low salaries too.

The old ones are the best- for NQTs stick to NES, BSK, GES, KES etc and you can't go wrong. The British Council may have regained the standard it once held in the '90s and go to Amideast ( if you must) but most other 'private language schools' are well, mmm, take anything they say / offer with a pinch of salt.
