Hello All,

I just wanted you all to beware of this school run by a Canadian(Shawn Otterson) and his Chinese wife(Lily). My list of complaints about this is a little long so I try to be as brief as possible.

First off, This school will only pay for hours worked in the classroom. This means no holiday pay for Chinese new year and the like. Second, you are responible for your own housing costs. This works out to being a huge deposit that is taken out of your pay check. All visa, medical check, visa run to HongKong costs are born by the teacher.

The reality of this basically is that you waste about 2 months salary getting out of debt. Then a unpaid holiday comes and you are back in debt just like when youy first arrived 2 months previous.

This school also fired all their Chinese staff in the middle of January, just to get out of paying them their New Years bonus. Also, I know at least 4 native teachers that have left the school in the past 3 months, for one reason or the other. Of course, I was told all sorts of crazy reasons why they left or were fired. I would love to hear their side of the story.

Finally, when I gave one months notice, was fired on the spot and had my z visa revoked and was put on an l visa status with 3 weeks to find a new job over chinese New Year. I got it sorted out so I am ok., but I thought it was rather rude. Lastly they also stole all my teaching matrial from the states that I brought with me.

Jesus. Posts like this remind me that I have been quite lucky with my two jobs in China so far.
