Hey everybody,

I'm a junior in college (linguistics, minor French) so I still have a ways to go yet, just had a quick question regarding my eligibility to work in France.

I'm American, but my father is French. The only problem is I'm not really on speaking terms with my pops; I don't really want to have to go ask him to do anything for me.

So my question is this: is it possible for me to attain a work permit, through some type of jus sanguinis, without my father's help?

I've been to France many times; I studied in Paris for a year and would like to return there for a little bit of time before grad school.

If it's not possible, c'est la vie. Merci pour l'aide. Salut.

Presumably you still have documentary evidence that proves your father is a French citizen (birth records etc). Your best bet is probably to ask your local French consulate.

I have my birth certificate that says my father is French and my mother American; do I need any other forms?

Google the French consulate in your country. Send them an email. You probably don't need much more, assuming that your birth cert states that your father is French.

You need professional advice here - it's unlikely that anyone on the forum will know, and even if someone has done the same as you, laws change and you will want up-to-date info.
