I understand that to work at HCT and other places you often have to sign a statement about not working anywhere else without their permission. How common is it for these places to allow staff to work PT at other insitutes?

Every one of my contracts in the Gulf stated that extra work was no allowed without their permission.

I can't speak for HCT, but I know that in Saudi Arabia many teachers have done outside work - usually under the "don't ask, don't tell" conditions.
But I even had my superiors at the IPA ask me to do "extra outside work", even though they knew it was in violation of the contract.

I don't know anyone who asked, but I did private lessons very quietly in Oman. While I was at HCT, I had neither the time nor the energy... and the money was more than sufficient to afford not to...
