I'm considering it. Has anyone been to one? Is it worth it?
A little bit on my background: I'm just starting out in the TESOL field - did a year teaching in Korea and just got my CELTA - but I am planning to pursue a career in teaching English. I've looked at jobs on the TESOL.org website and these are the type I would like to be qualified for eventually, however that is still five or more years down the line. Would it be worth going to any part of this conference at this point in my career? |

| I won't say that there aren't any jobs that you woudn't be eligible for, but many employers target the more papered candidates. If you are serious about this career in TESOL attending the conference always looks good on the resume. |

Are you looking for a job or are you wondering about the conference itself. I've attended the US TESOL conference before, as well as the regional TESOL confererences (TESOL Arabia). It depends what you're after in order to make it "worth it." |

I'm there to look for a job. I've been to academic conferences before and there's usually not much happening on the first day except set up. There's usually not much happening on the last day either except tear down. What would be the best days to go there to look for a job? Thanks. |

| I'd give the last day a miss. If you check TESOL's JobMarketplace website you can see which employers are going to be there. You can also request an interview (all of thie w/o registering for the conference). My experience w/ most of these conferences if that it's better for those who are well-qualified, but perhaps not for a newbie to TESOL. |

| Yes, looking at the jobs advertised on their website, I'm completely under-qualified for 99% of them. But going and making contacts for the future might be worth it... it's a bit expensive for me at the moment, however. I'm thinking of just going to some of the pre- and post- institutes, since a few of them look very interesting. Does anyone know how expensive they are? When I got to the registration page with prices for the convention itself, it said it would calculate final cost of the institutes after going through all the registration process... |

| I want to say that those pre/post conference sessions were around $150/each. They seemed to fill up fast, too. |

Can one just go to the jobs room and not register for the conference? That would make life easier... and cheaper... |

| In some conferences, yes, you seem to be able to attend the job fair separately, but I'm pretty sure that wasn't the case for this one. I might be wrong, but I recall looking into it when I registered a couple months back. |

I checked out the website for this conference and didn't find any info. a job fair.
What type of companies will be there? International schools? Language schools? |

Nothing about the TESOL site is user-friendly, IMHO.

You're right, that site is really user-unfriendly.
Academic conferences I've been to, one has been able to just stroll in without anyone checking IDs or badges. Heck, I was even part of a panel discussion at one conference without even signing in and paying the fee. If you look like you belong there no one will probably stop you. I'm only interested in the jobs, not the seminars, so I'll just go in on Thursday and see what's up. |
