Truely?....
I went there for a holiday 14 years ago and loved it...I was only 12 though lol...
Then that bomb went off and got me a bit concerned....
Now I'm, well a grown up hehe I'm looking into a new place to teach after Korea...
So how is a working life there? Does an average contract provide you with enough to live off...
Is life beyond the party scene eg. food and entertainment substantial?...
Thanks |

As always, it depends...
I'm substantially older than you, Renzo, so our impressions may be different. Next to your topic I post a new topic about which kind of schools you can encounter in Indonesia. Read, maybe it will not scare you, if you are ready to fight.
Best wishes

I have been teaching English in Indonesia for over 9 years and I love it. I started off in EF Medan (before it got really bad) and now work in a National Plus School with excellent salary, benefits and vacation time. I have also picked up some part time after school work which gives me additional spending money.
There are alot of horror stories on this forum but there are also alot of good teaching jobs out there if you spend the time to look for them...!
Have a great holiday season....

INDO IS FUN THOUGH HOT. BEEN TEACHING HERE FOR 2 YEARS PLUS. IF YOU HAVE GREAT QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE, TRY NAT PLUS SCHOOLS. FOR STARTER, NO CHOICE TRY EF. I AM NOT TOO MUCH OF EF LOVER, BUT EF IS ALWAYS AN IDEAL STEPPING STONE BEFORE APPLYING TO NAT PLUS. GOOD LUCK! |

How is teaching at the universities? Is the pay worse than at primary and high schools? Is it common for Indonesian universities to have faculty that are non-native? |

Not uncommon to find foreigners working at Indo universities but very rare to find one that is being paid by that university. Most are V&E fellows getting a salary from their home institution or people in temp posts funded by NGO's. I know two people who teach at university just to get a visa to stay with their spouses - they draw no salary. |

No salary, wow, there goes that idea down the drain. That's really a shame as I was hoping for Indo to be an alternative to Thailand but my family can't live on nothing... |
