I was wondering if anyone has ever applied to this program. Were you accepted and if you did the program what was your experience like?

I am thinking about applying to this program so I can get certified as a Social Studies or ESL teacher.

All of my experience of ESL (speaking as a certified ESL teacher) in American schools is that ESL is looked down upon. "Oh - you teach...them...".

The level of development of textbooks and programs is shockingly limited. I believe this is because unlike Europe or Asia, where people studying English are respected pillars of society, in the US they are immigrants and refugees, and they are looked on condescendingly.

In short, odds are that in 3-4 years you will run screaming from American public schools. (I didn't believe I would, and yet I did)

Since I only want to teach in the US for 3-4 years anyways that should not be a problem. I want to get my experience and then find a long term job in an American or international school abroad.

Do you mean Teach For America? If so I was in that for two years before running screaming to an international school job and can fill you in.

Do you not feel it was worth it to get certification?
