I was just curious if anyone is familiar with Hakodate. I am considering moving there from Korea. If anyone could some some information about good schools, cost of living, and standard teaching contracts there I would be grateful. This will be my second attempt at moving to Japan. I was offered a job there last year with NOVA but turned it down for a Korean position.
My girlfriend is Japanese and from Hakodate and tells me alot about the place but she doesn't seem to know anything about the schools but does fill me in on some other things.
Thanks a million |

Sorry-I can't help you with the specific info you requested, but I have visited Hakkodate, and it's a nice city. If you can get a decent job there, I'd recommend it.
Hopefully, someone will be able to give you the information you want.

To state the obvious, good thing you turned down that NOVA job.
Good luck! |

My wife used to work in Hakodate, and we've visited a couple of times. Can't say as I ever noticed any signs for large eikaiwa, but she said there seemed to be a lot of big and small ones there.
A quick check with iTownpage phone book shows only EC and one more, but that's just iTownpage.
Your girlfriend lives there, and even though she may not know about any, she can certainly look them up in the Japanese phone book or Japanese Internet connections a lot easier. Ask her. |

Glenski,
I am definitely doing that. I just want to be careful. After all I nearly got caught up in the NOVA fiasco, plus I have a school in the Czech Repulic that owes me a chunk of change. No need to repeat the past if I can help it.
And since you bring up EC how is that company? I've read bad things but hear they have been bought out. Does that mean they are better?
Again, anyone helpful info is appreciated. |

EC was a school owned by G-com. G-com bought out the old NOVA and transformed the EC branches into 'new NOVA schools'.... stay away. |

I live in Hokkaido and have been there a few times. I have only seen Nova signs but I admit I wasn't actually looking for work, so there could be a few schools?
I know interac is now operating in the area |
