Hi Guys
I am a 24 BSc Maths graduate with a TEFL qualification and no formal teaching experience although i did do some assistant maths teaching for 16-19 year olds during my final year. I'm just wondering on the possibility of my going to China to teach at one of those institutes that teach pre-uni maths for students intending to go abroad. I did apply for such an institute with CCIE, they say they are processing things but the lady i spoke to said the Academic director did want someone with experience so i doubt my chances.
My main plan is to do a month or two in one of these institutes whilst i travel to China for 3 months. I've looked around and it just seems maths positions for someone in my position are available during normal school term in primary and middle schools. |

well i had a Ba in math 2 years tutoring experience in math and 1 year of esl teaching. I had no problem getting a job teaching at a third tier international school. but most places will want a year (or 2) long commitment and you will be so busy during the school week that you won't do much traveling.
personally if you are only coming for a few months i say forget the teaching and just travel. |

Hiya
thanks for the reply. Basically i was planning to take the maths position for the 3 month holiday period and then engage in a year's contract with an english institute like Aston, Wall street etc.....but if there is the chance i could teach maths in a school for a year then i would jump on that in a heart beat, just that even though i am fairly ok at conveying ideas of high level maths on a one to one level, imagine the jump from final year degree to a high school teaching position??!? lol is that even feasible? If it were because they were desperate then yea as i said, i would be on it in a heart beat. |
