Anybody with a huge warchest saved up over the years planning on shipping it all back to America now? With the economy down the tubes it seems like there's never been a better time (in the past twelve years anyways) to start buying American dollars. I wish the Canadian dollar would go back down to 86 yen like it was when I first came here 3 years ago.

Ditto here, Mothy. But I figure the more yen I send now, the faster those debts evaporate, and then I can use my yen to play, play, play!

Someday that will happen... Confused

Arent you worring about this? With the American Economy going down the drain, your dollar is worth less and less there...what if in a year or so it is worth almost nothing? I am insure about what to do...we have money here...and we wont be here forever...but I am worried about American and their recession (sp?)

It needs to drop a bit more yet to make up for all the times I had to send money home at 240-250 to the pound... still, nice to see it has actually come down at last.

Quibby, how could American dollars end up being worth almost nothing in the US? Are you picturing rampant inflation? I doubt that will happen somehow. There was a major recession starting in 1987 which you might be a bit young to remember, but everyone survived and came out the other end- the sky is not falling, even if the stockmarkets and the value of the dollar are Smile

If I start dating the Japanese ladies, then that will most likely happen. Thanks for the heads up slodziak!

I'm not at all worried about this because I am being paid in yen and I send that yen back to US and A, getting me more dollars at the moment.

Plus, if I do visit the USA soon, that yen is going to go farther.

When I arrived in late July, it was about 1USD=119 yen. Dang! Now the dollar is down to 100 yen. Very nice! How long will this last though?

Regards,

Yeah, from a purely selfish point of view this is great for me. I have nothing but debt in dollars and nothing but revenue in yen. For my personal sake this doesn't worry me a bit. But I do have a heart, and friends and family back home, and a love for my country which I haven't been able to completely drop so I do worry a little. But recessions happen and the US has a stable government and a lot of natural resources so I think they'll bounce back strongly, it's just a matter of how long. The worst long term effects I see is that most likely the Euro is going to replace the dollar as the world currency. But that's not really that bad a thing, big picture wise. So, while I worry maybe a friend or family member might have some tough time until we pull out of the recession, I'm not so worried that I can't enjoy how this benefits me. Smile
Maybe I should have broken this into two paragraphs... oh well.
