Following all the recent scandals at EF English First China (e.g., school owners and ACs been discovered to have been stealing money from head office by not paying the 10% of course fees to head office; school owners exposed as gangsters, etc.) the company is desperate for staff for the coming Summer contract period. My advice is to avoid ALL EF 'schools' like the plague - most of the teachers are unqualified and unexperienced, some, perhaps most, do not even have degrees or TEFL certificates (even the global academic operations manager does not have a first degree!), they even employ non-native speakers now that they are desperate. However, if you do want to consider working a Summer contract for EF China, simply ask for more than the standard 5,500 RMB a month - they will pay because they need the teachers! No teachers means no classes means no money! They can afford it. I know of one girl who has bargained for 7,500 RMB a month from an EF school for Summer 2003.
Go for it! Remember, they need you more than you need them! |

I am not surprised by your post. Some of the EF schools in Indonesia keep sending me emails ...however...I have never been able to get them to tell me exactly what salary they pay.Not that I would go,anyway.I guess, from reading some of the posts on some of the EF schools in Indonesia that some people have been satisfied.Since it is a franchise op,conditions vary from branch to branch. But I would not teach at any of them, personally speaking. |

I know exactly what you mean about non native speakers working at EF schools. One school in particular even has a non native speaking DoS!
This poor fella has enough trouble stringing a sentence together in proper English, let alone teaching and managing, etc. |

I paid a visit to EF Nanshan Shenzhen today. I was told that they don't have any positions available for me. While I was there, EF had a foreign teacher just fly in from England or America. There were three or four foreigners there already. |
