Has anyone ever lived in one of these on their own?
I mean, Would a foreign resident be able to move into one on their own?
Any info greatly appreciated. |

I think foreign residents may get priority in our town. Our danchi is like Rio in the evenings. Sooooo many Brazilians and we are friends with a couple. We are also friends with a japanese family in the same danchi and they find it a very intimidating place to live because of this. Sigh... |

The answer is yes, quite simply. As someone who lives in Nagoya i and many others i know live in a "Danchi" and whilst a few are a bit old and run down, some are quite nice. No key money or guarantor needed either!! |

Thanks a lot people. It's definitely doable!
The only problem is that the rents are often incredibly expensive in rennovated buildings, higher than market rents, and those that aren't are few and far between.
I'm talking upwars of 100,000 yen a month for a 1 DK!
They've also sold a lot of uits in the last few years so availability can also be a problem.
However, if any of you are looking to live on the outskirts of Tokyo this is definitely worth a look. the prices are affordable and many of the units are rennovated.
Also no hassles being a foreigner, paying key money or one month to the real estate agent. What a pleasure to walk in talk with these people.
Some prefectures also provide income geared units. Saitama is one such place but you need to have an income of less than 200,000 yen a month and a family. |
