Have you ever gotten annoyed when your husband says "we'll see" instead of yes??? You feel as if nothing is ever certain... If so, you might be interested in the study below...

I am a master student of sociology at Fatih University, and am currently working on my final thesis. My thesis focuses on communication in intercultural marriages. In particular, I am interested in working with Turkish-American and Turkish-Central Asian couples to better understand the communication styles and strategies used between spouses. In order to do this, I am conducting interviews with several couples.

During the interview, participants will be asked to talk about typical experiences with strangers and family members. Participation will involve a maximum of two interviews (standard - one interview). Those who agree to the study will participate in a joint interview with their spouses. In addition to the interview a short writing activity will about a given topic will be administered. Finally a puzzle will be completed by couples.

I myself am involved in an intercultural marriage and have noticed many interesting and sometimes surprising communication strategies in my daily life. These observations have led me to center my thesis on better understanding these strategies. Hopefully, better insight into about the complexities of intercultural communication will help couples to improve their interpersonal communication.

If you are interested in participating or would like more information you can contact Rebecca Shaffer at [email protected] or respond to this post.

Regards,

Rebecca Shaffer
