I've posted this message on the newbie form but was advised to post it here.
I'm looking to begin my first year long teaching experience overseas this fall and was hoping someone might be able to help me figure out what to expect. I've read many horror stories on these forms about newbies being exploited. Based on my minimal education and qualifications what would be considered an average salary in China? How many hours should I expected to work? Do most schools provide accomodation of some sort? Is there anything else I should be aware of?
In terms of my qualifications, I have a great deal of experience teaching English in overseas summer camps and as a volunteer in Thailand after the tsunami- but never in a paid position at school or language institute. I am a qualified TESOL instructor but I do not have a bachelor's degree. I've finished up one of four years studying to get my B.Ed and plan to return and complete it after having saved some money.
I've also been emailed several contracts from various elementary schools and language institutes. I'm strongly considering an offer from Three Bridges English School. Does anyone have any experience working for them?
Anything you can tell me would help - thanks! |
