This is my fourth time renewing my FM3 and my first time doing so in Monterrey.
Normally, I've only had to present my ESL teaching certificate to meet the requirements. Today, the lady asked for my university materials from the states -- not a big deal but I don't have them with me and the deadline is Friday.
In the end, she agreed to accept the packet of info and send it upstairs as it was. Will let you know how things turn out. It may well be that immigration is getting stricter on this stuff. Or, it could be, that as we've all learned, every office, and every immigration agent is different. |

I'll probably end up trying to get an FM3 in Monterrey sometime this year, so can you clarify which materials they were looking for? For example, degree? Transcripts? Both? Something else?
Thanks! |

FYI, I just got back from meeting the lawyer who's going to help me get my FM3 - he has offices both in Mexico City and Monterrey. He mentioned in passing that while things can be a little difficult at Migracin in the D.F., things are much more difficult at the Monterrey branch. |

As has been pointed out before in this forum, each IMN office is different.
Last time I went to get my FM-3 renewed in Tuxtla Gutierrez, I presented copies of my Masters and BA diplomas along with my Cambridge University TKT certificates and was told they didn't need them. The year before, they required some proof of qualifications to teach English. It's always a dice roll. |

I can't send you a list of what they ask for because it can vary, not only between every office, but between immigration agents. The way I see it, they see documents as cash and the more you have the more likely they are to "sell" you a visa. Bring absolutely everything apostilled to be on the safe side.
My reason for posting this thread is that I know many teachers who have certificates from ITTO and other schools but don't have degrees. All of them have FM3s. If Migracion stops excepting certificates as proof that you're a teacher, what about CELTA or DELTA? If that's where things are going (and again, this could just be a regional office thing) why get a certificate at all?
Does anyone know the specific law on this? |
