Hey Everyone,

I'm intending to head to Mexico this summer to teach English for a year. I'm planning a career change into international development and I'm hoping this move should help give me good grounding in experiencing another culture and help to improve my Spanish!

I'm soon going to have completed my CELTA qualification, and already have some travel experience.

My concern is that due to my employment contract in the UK, I won't be able to make it out to Mexico until Mid-September. Will this severley restrict the amount of job opportunities available to me? My concern is that the school/University year may have started in many places, and teachers will have already been recruited.

Any advice would be great! FYI - I'm currently thinking of working in either Mexico City or Guadalajara

Thanks!

Private schools (primeria, prepa, uni) will all start in August. When exactly varies. My current job begins August 4th, the job I hope to have begins mid-August.

Language Schools will hire year round. It just depends on their need when you apply.

What position are you looking for exactly?

If it is for a job at one of the first options, make sure you come with enough money to hold you over for several months, as you will likely have to wait a bit before getting hired (assuming the schools need someone - which does happen), and then you will have to wait another little while to get paid (they hold back the first two weeks of pay, meaning it will be a month before you receive a paycheck).

Hey guy's

Thanks for the advice. I was ideally looking for a private school position, but as you say, it does sound like you need to be in the country from June/July time to give you the best opportunity of finding a good job.

It's good to know that language schools will hire year round though. Is their any seasonality to the amount of people they recruit, or highs/lows in terms of demand for these positions?

Thanks for your help!
