Hi guys,
I'm filling my application form to send to the Vietnamese Embassy here in Australia.
It asks if I want a tourist, business, diplomat etc visa.
From looking through this forum, am I right to assume I should ask for a TOURIST visa...and then once I've done my TEFL course in Vietnam and found a job, then go about upgrading to the business visa?
I'm just concerned if they ask me at the Vietnam airport "why are you here?" and I show my one-way ticket, Tourist Visa and announce I'm there to teach English, they might send me packing!! Could this happen? Is it safer to apply for the business visa from Australia??
Any tips appreciated
Thanks

Hi Kat,
Did you have any luck in finding answers for your question? I am concerned about the same issue - if I enter on a tourist visa, and customs ask why I'm there, and I say to get a job, will they ask me to show proof that I have the right to work there? Or will they not care? Should I not even mention working, and say that I am there for a holiday. But then again, maybe I'll look a little sus coming in by myself for a holiday - female, 20 years old, alone.
BTW, I'm coming from Aus too.
In relation to the type of visa that you will need - it is my understanding that you can only apply for a business visa if you have an employer to sponsor you. So you can only get a business visa before arriving in country if you have a job lined up already, which your employer will help you obtain. Otherwise, you will have to arrive on a tourist visa and change it over to a business visa once you get a job.
Thanks!
Cat. |

You need to choose a tourist visa, a C1. When you get here, you or your school can apply for a Business Visa when your tourist visa expires.
Please be careful with the date of entry. You will not be allowed entry until the date stated on your visa.
Don't worry about them asking you questions, they don't speak that much English; that's why you're here! |

Once a Viet immi guy asked me upon entry, "Do you speak any Vietnamese?"
I said, "Hell, no!"
He got offended and shook his head in disgust as he was giving me a go because I told him I don't speak any Vietnamese. |
