So I've gotten lists of language schools in Croatia, which is where I really want to teach, thanks to the advice from this site and others, but I'm not getting very positive responses. i have a master's degree in education, some teaching experience (i'm currently teaching in elementary school), and a tefl certificate....so i thought i would be somewhat qualified, although i know it's really competitive out there.
Basically, schools are saying that they don't have any openings and/or they would like to meet me. Is Croatia a place where you have to physically go there to find a job? And if it is, does anyone know what the odds are that I will go and NOT find one?

Yes, Europe in general very rarely hires from abroad, outside of positions for people with highly specialist qualifications or for schools in remote locations.

This is because people often don't show up, or prove to have misrepresented themselves in some way when they do, or simply turn out not to have the professional look and manner the school director wants to see in his/her staff.

The odds that you wouldn't find a job upon going are probably slim, though depending on the time of year it could take a bit of time. Early September is likely the best time to be there, but I'm not entirely sure of this, having lived in Croatia but not having worked there. Maybe some other poster can say for certain.

I expect that if Croatia is what you really want, yes, you'll have to go there and walk the streets. But this should work.
