I've been offered a teaching gig at Delia School of Canada in Hong Kong. Has anyone worked there or know of anyone who has? I'm wondering if the salary is standard or if I should negotiate it ($32,400 HK month). And is it standard to not be offered housing with international schools? And how's the school in general? Good place to work?
Sorry to mess you with questions! Any help would be GREATLY appreciated! |

It will be helpful if you post your qualifications and years/type of experience so that more accurate advice can be given. However, I have not come across an international school that pays housing allowance. Some may do, but I don't know of any.
Below is the link for American International School. It may help you with salary guides.

I think that it would be a good position, and you will live comfortably on 32.4K per month.

Thanks for the replies. All very helpful. If there's any more info about Delia School of Canada in Hong Kong, please share!
As far as my qualifications go, I have a degree in ECE and my B.Ed is in Primary/Junior education. I have 0 years paid experience. I've been offered an elementary teaching position with Delia and I'm seriously considering it.
Like I said, if there's anything else anybody would like to add I would really appreciate it! |

Hi,
I know of a few people who worked at Delia (all Canadians). They seemed to enjoy their jobs. However, I don't remember which campus they worked at. I think the pay you are being offered is about what they received as well. I do know that there was a 'shake-up' regarding the board of directors or some head honchos a few years ago (people stepped down or something like that) but I don't think this affected the teachers directly or anything.
I was making about 31, 000 HKD a month on the PNET Scheme, and I lived very comfortably and saved money as well. Good luck! |

I'm actually in the exact same position as you. I was offered the same contract and I'm still debating it. I've been trying to get more info on the school, I've only heard good things.

However, elementary campus is merging with the secondary, so I'm not sure how that impacts the job, or if you will assigned to another "Delia" school upon arrival if there is not enough students. |
You're also thinking about working at Delia? Small world! What are your thoughts thus far? And just for my own curiousity, what grade? |

What is the link to apply with the Delia schools? I looked on the web site and couldn't find anything. |

Hello Miss Can chick and toronto1982,
I was just wondering if you tow decided to accept the teaching position.
I accepted mine in February and will be teaching grade 2 at Taikoo Shing.
The salary quoted is the same as mine since they follow as master scale. Not-negotiable since I asked about it.
Please reply!

Congrats on the job offer. I wish I could find something. I have an interview in a few weeks for a PNET. I wonder what kind of questions they will ask me. I am starting to wonder if it is worth leaving a good job here in CA to an unknown. I like adventure and new things but I don't like being taken advantage of. |

Hey there!
You should definitley take the positon. The salary quoted above is more than enough to live on. Plus, the tax rate is really low in HK unlike here in Canada where you get taxed to the max.
Hong Kong as a great party/martini lounge scene. There's a great expat community too so you'll feel at home.
Regarding housing allowances, The canadian school in singapore does offer a housing allowance and i'll be teaching there next year. |
