|
|
I recently got hired for an IB School Secondary job in BJ. Given that I'll only be teaching 15 hours/week, the salary is OK - 9,000RMB + nice apartment + free canteen food. However, it isn't going to make me rich, and after working American teaching hours (40 contact hours, all grading and planning on my own time), I can't quite imagine what I'll do with myself. So, I've been wondering, how hard is it to get a job on the side, tutoring, or picking up a few classes at another school? If it's possible, what's the best way to find these, and what's the legality?
Thanks in advance for your help! |

Side work abounds in China. Check online expat sites to get an idea. You'll probably get offers through your school [eg local company wants English lessons for sales staff], but these don't pay well after your employer takes his cut.
The best money comes from corporate work you find yourself. 300Y an hour and up, often on weekends. Don't let your school know, and technically it may be illegal, so be discreet. |

BJ's probably a lot more expensive than Qingdao, but that sounds like such a good offer compared to my school. damn I need to find work at an IB school..
the other FTs at my school get approached in the street and asked to tutor once in a while. there are also online expat sites where people post want ads for English tutors. |
