I have had an offer from a private high school and a university. In neither case is it an ESL position. The workload seems the same, but the high school is offering a lot more money. Is this common?
Thanks |

This is not all that unusual in China. |

The OP might just mean it's not Conversational English, but perhaps it's American literature, or IELTS prep etc.
Alternatively, it could be an International School or an IB program in a high school, and he/she teaches Maths, Biology, Music, etc..., or it could be a Uni Prep program (in a Chinese Uni preparing students for study OS) where he/she teaches Study Skills, Business, Maths, Science, etc...
The OP could be more helpful....

One is teaching academic courses in high school - science. The other is teaching business classes at a university. Thanks for your thoughts. |

Check how many students per class and how much they charge per student and you will probally have your answer.
Where I work part time at an institute they only charge 10 per hour per student. Classes are mainly twenty per class. My boss pays his Chinese teachers under 20 an hour. I get 110 an hour but many groups I don't get to teach because of my cost.
Go for the money! |
