Hi,
Just as some background about me, I'm doing a TEFL course in July in costa rica, and I will be graduating in August from the course. I will already have a BsC in biology and I'll be 21. I am looking to work in either Costa Rica or Mexico for a while until I decide to start applying to grad schools for physical therapy (probably not for a few years)
1. How hard is it to find jobs in areas close to the water? I know most of the jobs are in San Jose but I am not a big city person, and I tend to spend as much time in the woods or down by the water as possible. Which areas would you recommend looking at? And which schools would you recommend applying to?
2. Would it be difficult to find a place to live that allows dogs? I have a 1 year old hyper active border collie who is probably the most fun dog on the planet, but if I need my parents to take him for an extended period of time they will.
3. What were your favorite things to do and places that you have seen in Costa Rica or Mexico? What are things that it would be a shame to miss out on seeing or doing before you leave? |

If you're talking about a ESL job, it's hard (but possible) to find on the coast. If you've a biology degree it's possible to work (volunteer or low-wage) for projects relating to e.g. turtles, jungle preservation etc which may or may not be on the coast. ESL jobs can be found on the Pacific coast, not as much on the Caribbean coast where English is spoken anyway. Biology-related jobs can be found all over.
You won't have a problem finding a place that allows dogs, but since a lot of the Tico houses I visited have pets of some sort already, it'd be a good idea to not bring him if he's not very social.
I really liked Dominical in Costa Rica. |

Leave the dog at home! Jobs are hard to find but there are some in if you look hard.. Get a copy of Lonely Planet Costa Rica ...it's great and invaluable for places to stay and things to do....Good Luck.!!! |
