Hey there..
I'm looking for some advice. I am considering going to Tokyo from Korea in the first week of May..Just two nights- Saturday and Sunday!!
I've seen some info about it being Golden Week in Japan during this time. Basically a few holidays together. Will this make my trip very uncomfortable and possibly not worthwhile? Will many places be closed down for this.. etc??
The ticket is 600,000 Korean Won (about 600$) return which is expensive enough. I will have a place to stay with friends in Tokyo though which means no accom costs. I am leaving Korea (end of May) to go home soon so this will prob be my last chance to go see Tokyo..
I am worried a bit about the timing. I don't want to go there if it is REALLY a very bad time to visit..
Any advice is appreciated..
Thank You.. |

If you've got free accommodation, then that's your biggest problem taken care of. All the cheaper places will be booked out WELL in advance, but that won't affect you.
The popular spots will be very crowded... but hey, you'll get the full Tokyo experience!

In my experience, Tokyo seems less busy during Golden Week. Not dead, just noticeably slower. Most places that are worth going to on a Saturday or Sunday night are not going to be closed during GW. |

Tokyo is usually noticeably quieter during Golden Week. Places like Asakusa and Kamakura may be busy, but then they are any given weekend too. The local trains are a lot less crowded around rush hour, and not particularly crowded any other time either.
As long as you have accommodation set up and don't plan on going far outside Tokyo (Nikko and Hakone for example would probably be packed), then it's a great time to come. |

Thanks a lot for the replies..
They have given me lots of confidence about the trip. I seen elsewhere where it said it was the worst time to go to Tokyo...but obviously thats not the sentiment here..
I suppose accommodation would have been the difference.. Its great that I have that sorted out.
Cheers.. |
