Man alive, someone must have finished their classes early. The grand man of HCT only sent his email at Thu 4/10/2008 3:34 PM.

Phew. There will be joyous celebrations across the UAE as HCTers get their glad rags on and start to dance and offer praise.

Still, it's not all good. As the hand meekly reaches to take the 15%, there is another hand that is going to slap you with a non renewal of contract or a sentence to another college. Here's me with my hair just done and now I have to go to Ruwais?

So what do you think this means for new hires starting in August?

PostPosted: Thu Apr 10, 2008 6:30 pm    Post subject: Tubby at the Bat Reply with quote

Slowly he raises his head so that the sunshine warms his fuzzy face. The tension is electric. Tubby the Camel is at the bat.

Tubby chews once...and then, twice. He looks down and spits out (as all camels are wont to do) a stream of 'bacca juice. The crowd is hushed.

Slowly, ever so slowly, Tubby raises his cloven hoof and points up into the stands indicating where he intends on hitting the ball. The hometown crowd erupts in an explosion of cheers! The great Tubby the Camel is going to save the day!

The pitcher stands upright on the mound. He wipes away the sweat that has beaded on his brow. He knows only too well of Tubby's reputation of bringing his team through when the odds were stacked against them, but he is convinced that the cannon, which is his arm, will cause Tubby to fall afoul tonight. He glances at the 3rd base coach and get the signal.

Fastball.

The pitcher again turns his attention towards Tubby, says a silent prayer, takes his final clue from the catcher and slowly begins his wind up. It builds and builds until it reaches its' own crescendo and he loosen his mighty missle. It cuts through the air and, in the blink of an eye, finds its' mark.

Tubby stumbles to find his way to the base trying to shake off the bean ball to the noggin. He reaches his target, shaken, but not stirred. He may have not have hit a home run...he may not have saved the day...but at least he got to first.

Moral: Be happy with what you get. It coulda been a big goose egg.

I think I would have understood the 'goose egg'. That is, for all the starters last August they are now pulling in a 'decent' 18,000Dhs a month! Come to think of it...What are you talking about?

18,000/month at HCT? That's not the number I was quoted last week.

It is well known that many teachers that joined last August started off on 15,500Dhs a month. Add to that a 15% payrise and not to mention the dismal 4% annual increase = Dhstoofaraway....for me and many others.

I'm just saying that HCT is currently recruiting, and the pay range they provided to a group of potential applicants did not even top out at 15,000. Does this mean some people in some colleges are starting at 15,000?

Yes, they are, or did, or were..... or, but... it is a fact! The 'in' time was obviously, last August, or maybe, perhaps. Seems like crunch Dirham time again.....Many of us know what it is like to be hired at the wrongggg HCT time. I am talking years.... until I can make up to what 'New Starters' are now getting.

I just don't understand why an institution would sit down and tell potential applicants that the range didn't go as high as $4000 USD/month. After all, what would they lose by quoting as low as $3000 but as a high as $4000? Why undercut the maximum starting wage?

For those that you know came in at 15,000: how many years of experience did they have? What college was this in?

Not 15,000Dhs a month. 15,500Dhs a month for new starters. But, who really cares...right! This is happening at ADMC & FWC that I know of. If it is happening there.....
