Has anyone had any success renting a place _before_ landing the job?
I ask because I'm travelling in my small camper and have been too chicken to park on the side of the road when travelling alone, so a lot of my money has already been blown on RV park fees. Looking at a few rental places online, it' looks much cheaper to go ahead and just rent a house than to pay at a hotel or stay at an RV park way outside of town. Also, I have my dog with me, so gotta get a house/apartment, not just a boarding room. |

You should be able to park in the Pemex gas station areas as you travel. I agree that parking along the side of the road is not a good plan, even if not travelling alone. Have you been in touch with any RV forums? If not, I can provide you with some links and perhaps they will offer you some suggestions. RV'ers network and are always willing to share. |

No luck renting, or even finding leads on rentals, before we moved to Guadalajara, but we did find a place before starting work.
Once we got there, we thought we'd be able to apartment-hunt like we usually did in Canada: reading bulletin boards at the universities, looking in the newspaper, etc. Ha ha ha... fat chance. There were a few ads in the paper, but the only real way to find a place (being newcomers with no connections in the city) was to wander around and around and around and around the area we wanted to live in, looking for "For Rent" signs. It didn't help that we needed a furnished place. However, we saw a sign in a nice-looking building twenty minutes by foot from our school, and when we called the number they landlord came right over. She showed us around, we agreed to take it, and the next day we signed the papers and moved in. It was a bit more than we had budgeted for but it worked out really well. |

I live in DF but I have always found my rentals using segundamano.com.mx . You can adjust it to search where you are. |
