I've written the syllabus for a Pre-School class. The material covers 8 hours a day, 40 hours a week. In total I've written enough material for 6 months. My boss wants to know how much money I expect to get for the job and then we can begin 'haggling' from there. I have no idea what to say.
Any advice? |

Nothing,
You should thank your boss for giving you the opportunity to design a syllabus that can be used for your young learners, thus giving you 'language school immortality' and a bit of practice.
Ask to do another one and stop moaning. |

I still think you should ask for the equivalent of a month's salary.
If I remember from the other forum, you said
1. She asked you to write it (and even checked a sample to be sure it was along the lines of what she wanted).
2. She's going to hand it to next year's teacher (you're leaving, right?).
3. She's increased her income this year by adding this new clientele which your curriculum is written to address, and she expects to profit equally (or even more) next year by continuing to build this new aspect of her business.
Anything less than a month's salary would be almost insulting, it seems to me. Honestly, you should probably get more than this, but to my mind this would be enough to at least recognize your willingness to go above and beyond the basics on behalf of the school. |

This may sound crazy, but why on earth didn't you ask your boss what you expected to earn for this work BEFORE you did it?
Seems to me, you are kind of at your boss' mercy...
But I'de calculate the number of hours you spent writing this syllabus and charge your boss a slightly lower rate than you are paid for a teaching hour. |

Hey Master Shake-can't stay away from the Poland forum? I told Aga to keep her chin up. June will be here soon.
BTW, nice to see you again, lad.

Thanks for the reply. I wasn't supposed to write it -- it was sort of sprung on me when we ran out of her syllabus. So there was no time for haggling I had to get down to it and write or else I'd have nothing to teach. Realizing the situation was a bit unfair, my boss then offered (I suppose as an apology or incentive, not sure) to pay me for the work. The first person that wrote the syllabus (up until the time it ran out) was paid for her work as well. So, that's the story. This is my first year teaching so I suppose you could say I'm learning the ropes as I go. It's safe to say I will never in my life return to this country from all the "learning" I've had to do. |

Just tell your boss that it took you x number of hours and that as you paid y zloty per 45 minutes teaching but need to spend 15 minutes preparing for each 45 minutes teaching, you would like to be paid x times y zloty. |
