I'm refering to the icelt course, those of you who have taken it. It does suggest that its primary target are those teachers with little or no experience at the chalkface, yet the one I'm involved in has at least a 50% ratio of what may be described as seasoned ,cyncial "vets" with at least 7-8 years of teaching to their credit.
Does this type of course really fit their needs?
Does it really make you a better and more efficient teacher ,or does the restraints and workload at your place of work blunt your sharpened desire to more than just a number?
The idea of teacher development is hardly new ,but it is difficult to get away from the notion that this course is been used to weedle out the dead wood who may or may not come though it with the required pass certificate.
What would your employer think if you were unable to complete this course?
Bearing in mind that it is usually a voluntary decision to take part, what about if its at their insistance? |
