I have been scanning a few websites which indicate cost of living and Portugal seems very inexpensive compared to places like Germany/Netherlands...even places in Hungary.
On ther other hand I have heard many complaints from Portuguese natives that since the introduction of the Euro things have gotten much more expensive.
So now I am thinking the following: Portugal always had a reputation for being dirt cheap; it still is very cheap but not by native standards. Compared to a London or Amsterdam it IS cheap though...
Your take on this guys? |

I know a girl that grew up in Lithuania and lived here for maybe half of her life...she decided to teach English in Europe and ended up in Portugal after the obligatory shot at Prague. She speaks little if any Portuguese (or Spanish, for that matter) and went by herself, but she's done very well as far as I know. Then again, after living here anything short of Moscow, Manhattan or London seems rather inexpensive. |

The price of living is ridiculous here...although from what I've heard most of Portugal (as in: not right in whatever metropolitan centers they may have) is cheap compared to any mid-level U.S. city (i.e. Portland and such.) |

Portugal was certainly one of the cheapest countries in W.Europe to live before the Euro was introduced!Overnight everything became more expensive.I haven't been back for a few years but I understand it's still one of the cheapest countries to live in as long as you avoid the Algarve!! |
