i have obtained a surfboard and i now need to buy a removable roof rack for my little daihatsu mira.

i need to know how to say "roof rack" in japanese. also, is there a chain store that sells automotive accessories in japan? i drove past "yellow hat" today and it looked like it was just tires...

Yellow Hat or Autobaacs, failing that go to a (your?) Daihatsu dealer.
Carrier or rack should be OK when explaining to the staff. There should be a little book there with all the racks that will tell you exactly what model your care will require.

Japanese have an "f" sound. Well, sort of...

And Japanese would more likely say "raku" rather than "rako"

I'm thinkin' it would be rakko instead of raku.

ルーフ ラック is what my lady said...

roo-hu rakku. i stand (or sit) corrected. japanese loanwords can be so difficult do ascertain sometimes.

Got it. I was close. Just the ク and not the コ. Sushi gets the grand prize.

Good luck with that rack and happy surfing. Japan is a cool country for doing sport of whatever kind, I'm discovering.
